Building Sand

Building Sand, also known as Plasterer’s sand, Masonry sand, or Bricklayer’s sand, is easily distinguishable for its finer grade and small, even particles. Building sand is the type of sand found at the bottom of riverbeds, making up beaches, and lying across the lake and ocean floors. Building sand is made up of small particles from decomposed rock (silica quartz), coral, minerals, and shells but the exact composition will vary depending on local rock sources and conditions during the formation of the pebbles.

Builder’s Sand and sharp sand are frequently used for projects that involve brickwork, paving, mixing mortar, and smoothing floors. The difference between sharp sand and building sand is that builder's sand is seen as slightly less coarse sand and can be free of unwanted additives and consequently a finer grade than sharp sand, with smaller particles. Building sand is most commonly used for bricklaying, mixed with water and cement, it creates bricklaying mortar which will allow the fusion of bricks together. Building sand is often mixed with water and cement, to make mortar for laying bricks, patio slabs/packs, and blocks.

We source our building sand from some of the UK’s leading suppliers, to ensure that all of our products are of the highest quality while being priced at extremely competitive cost-effective prices. We sell various types, such as red or yellow building sand and soft building sand. Our sand is typically sold as either building sand bulk bags which are minimum fill of 800kg or poly bags which are 25kg. If you are unsure how much sand you’ll require, please use our aggregate and sand calculator. The calculator can also help you to work out how much gravel or slate you’ll need for your other projects.
